Well Connected

3 WINTER 2016 FIRST WORDS WELCOME TO THE WINTER EDITION OF well connected, THE MAGAZINE OF LIVERPOOL & SEFTON CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE 2016 will undoubtedly be looked upon as an epochal year in the history of our country. The vote to leave the European Union and the fallout of the ‘Brexit’ decision continues to dominate our political debate. We also await the impending Donald Trump presidency which in itself is reflective of the macro-economic shifts in our world. Right now, as we contemplate our future outside Europe, there is no better time to maximise our Northern Powerhouse contribution to the UK economy. In Liverpool our future is intrinsically linked to our economic and natural geography. As the port of Liverpool shaped our future in the 1700’s, we should be proud to witness its rebirth. A £400 million investment in Liverpool 2, which is capable of handling twice the volume of shipping tonnage currently passing in and out of our region. It’s a game changer. Maximising the opportunities of global trade through the Port facility is a key aspiration of our region and must be placed centrally within our future aims. We were delighted to celebrate the achievements of some of our member companies at our recent Annual Dinner at Anfield’s new Main Stand. The sheer scale of the Main Stand development is incredible and its opening provides us with a genuine world class facility for one of our local clubs to compete. The potential development of a new stadium for Everton FC is something to be positively anticipated and would undoubtedly support the football-related tourism industry which continues to grow from strength to strength. Our winners at the Annual Dinner are featured within this edition of the magazine. The success of our member companies is to be celebrated and we were delighted to acknowledge the achievements of so many local businesses on the night. Each demonstrated a substantial contribution to our local economy in the areas of international trade, people development and business growth. I am looking forward to seeing the opportunities this new world will bring. Enjoy the read.
